Day 1: 34 Day Challenge

To start my program, I'll focus on a few things the next few days to transition my body and lifestyle:

  • Detox:  My experience is changing one's eating habits requires good planning.  I'm not going to start drinking V8 from now, so I had better come up with a plan.  Good, easy meals are the way to go.  I do like oatmeal, All Bran, chicken and veggies, so I'll incorporate these right away.  The extra fiber will help flush my system, along with Cranberry or Grape juice.  I'm going to nix coffee, the caffeine is too much for me.  Extra water!
  • Stretching:  This is vital to any workout program.  I'll focus on extra stretching this week to help me limber up.
  • Cardio and Light weights:  I'm not going to be running a marathon, or playing in the NFL anytime soon.  As such, it's important to get my body acclimated to my new routine.  I'll stress a progressive schedule with my cardio and circuit-style training
  • Sleep Schedule:  I won't be able to function if things get out of control.  Eight hours will now be mandatory.

As of today, my weight is 202.  My long term goal is to get to 175, that would be just about right for my height and build.  I've taken body measurements, and will be tracking those too (I'll spare you from the numbers).

34 Day Challenge...

Starting tomorrow, there are 34 days until New Years Day.  Every year I tell myself that I will eat better, workout more, yada yada.  And I'm not alone.

Gyms are filled to the brim until mid-February...then the thrill wears off...and like most others, I am back to my old ways.  So I came up with an idea.  What if I actually ended this year on a high note so I could  make a different resolution?  Essentially, beat NYD to the punch.

I've done quite a bit of exercise and healthful cooking in the past, so I've got a leg up on experience.  Over the next 34 days, I'll be posting my progress with some links to resources I like to use.

Wish me luck!  Maybe some of you will even jump on board!
